About Me

My name is Mike Boyer Smith, and I’m a mentor/coach with concentrated expertise in the complexities of IT Project Management, and an affinity for software development.
I’ve worked in the IT industry since 1991 in various roles including systems engineer, software developer, consultant, project manager, program manager and managing director.
All of the work that I’ve ever done has been project based, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some really amazing people.
I have always sought opportunities to learn from these great people, and have built my career by incorporating these lessons, and by keeping myself on a path of continual education and personal development.

Why I believe in coaching

Essentially, good project managers are people who make things happen. This is characteristic they share with every very successful person that I know or have studied – whether their actual title is Project Manager or not.

By mastering the skills required to be a successful project manager, you are mastering skills that will bring you success in any area of career or personal life.

What a great opportunity! To have a job where you can learn real life skills! Indeed, as a senior executive I continually applied project management skills to define business outcomes, create business plans and strategies.

Having worked in various roles over the years, I realize now that when a person gets to a project management role, they are truly at a pivotal point in their career.

Unfortunately not many people realize this at the time – I certainly didn’t.

Unfortunately too, there is so much chatter in the project management space that it’s difficult to determine how to progress your career. That’s why having your own mentor/coach is so effective.

So what excites me now is helping people at the project management stage of their career to really excel, because I believe this will create mind-blowing opportunities for these people in the future.
