How team coaching works
Coaching is based on a centuries-old method of teaching – the apprenticeship method.
The young apprentice works alongside the experienced teacher. They do real work, and the lessons come from the situations they encounter along the way. There are specific technical skills that can be learned classroom style, or from study, but the deep lessons, those of the true master, come from the experience and the process. Coaching uses this principle of building skills over a period of time, using actual work as the medium.
We understand that individuals need to acquire different skills, and that they all learn in different ways. By working closely with each person, we develop their skills rapidly and extract maximum capability from their work experiences.
What does a team coaching program look like?A typical PM Accelerator™ program begins with a half-day group workshop with your project managers. Here we explore core skills, and identify their strengths and areas where they could become stronger.
Following the group workshop, the program breaks into individual streams, where coaching is scheduled and tailored to suit each individual. Over a number of weeks we build the person’s capabilities using real-life project situations until they become automatic.
A final group workshop is held where lessons and insights are shared. We discuss the capability platform that has been established, and explore the advanced skills that can now be built on this platform.
